I am M, born in 1991, a Tajik woman with four daughters. My husband, was a security guard at Bagram Airport working on a U.S. government project. After the fall of the government, we could not evacuate through Kabul Airport and moved to Badakhshan for safety. Due to Taliban house-to-house searches and biometric checks, my husband fled to Iran in early 2022. After being deported from Iran, he returned to Afghanistan and we moved to a district of Badakhshan, where he worked as a street vendor.

On 26 November 2023, Taliban forces entered my sister's house and then surrounded our home. They accused my husband of working with Americans and NATO and mocked him, asking where his American and NATO employers were now. They tied my husband's hands and feet, while one Taliban member recorded the incident with his phone. A Taliban commander, Molavi Sabit from Paktia, who was reportedly affiliated with the Haqqani Network, sexually assaulted me in front of my husband despite his pleas for them not to hurt me.

The commander then shot my husband in the head while his hands and feet were tied. I lost consciousness after witnessing this. When I regained consciousness, I was taken to another room, where that commander and other Taliban members sexually assaulted me.

I was held for approximately five days before being returned through the intervention of a local mosque imam. I was later kept at the imam's house for approximately 15 days, while my daughters were hidden elsewhere. The Taliban warned that if we disclosed what happened, they would kill my daughters and the imam.

With the imam's assistance, my daughters and I were eventually transferred to Kabul, where I began receiving treatment with this organization, Our Culture is Giving. My daughters are now safe, and we are receiving support.

I believe my family was targeted because of my husband's work with the U.S. government/NATO and because we are Tajik and Dari-speaking. I am deeply grateful to the
team who help protect me and my children.
