M is a Tajik woman whose husband, D, worked for more than 15 years as a driver and security guard for NATO and U.S. government projects. In 2020, the Taliban killed her brother, a defense lawyer in Kabul and member of the Afghanistan Defense Lawyers Association. After his death M and D took responsibility for her brother's four children and his spouse.

Following the fall of the former government, D went into hiding because of the risks associated with his previous work with NATO and U.S. projects. In 2022, Taliban intelligence forces arrested him. According to M, he was sentenced by a Taliban court to five years in prison, reportedly on charges related to his work with the U.S. government and NATO, as well as alleged Christian activities.

Since D’s arrest, M has been responsible for two women and five children in the household. The family has faced severe financial hardship and repeated security threats.
She reports that Taliban members have repeatedly attempted to enter their home and sexually assault the women, but neighbors intervened and prevented the attacks.

The family later relocated with assistance from D’s colleagues. M states that her husband has a U.S. visa-related case, but his imprisonment prevents the case from being processed. She is seeking urgent protection and evacuation for her family, while her husband remains imprisoned by the Taliban.

Note: we care for both women and the 5 children. We have located D in Bagram where the Taliban hold him. He is not well and will likely not survive his sentence due.
