SIMA, Survivor Statement (via her mother)

I am Leila, mother of Sima. My child is 11 years old.

My husband was a Military officer of the previous government, and after the fall of the government, we had to move to Baghlan.

This was a horrible and stressful time. My husband had to go into hiding and was moving and changing his hiding locations all the time.

On February 1, 2023, my daughter was playing in front of our home with other girls. The Taliban patrol came and my daughter and other children ran away from them. The Taliban officer told me “why doesn’t your daughter have a Scarf, why is she playing outside? This girl should get married.”

When I went back inside my home, I told my daughter to not go outside again because the Taliban will get angry.

On February 3, 2023, this same Patrol was on a Motorcycle. My daughter had gone back outside to play with kids and this man grabbed her and drove off.

My daughter was screaming.

I ran to my neighbor and we went to the Taliban base near our home. I told them, one of your Patrols took our daughter.

The Taliban Commander at this base was very nasty and said that “girls are for marriage! Why should your girl be home when she can be married!”

I said that my daughter is a child, she is not yet 11 years old. She must be 18 years old for marriage.

The Taliban said, go home and shut up or we will kill you.

24 hours later they brought my daughter back. She was frozen like ice and her clothes were torn and bloody.

They had raped my daughter.

I took my daughter to the clinic near the house, the doctor gave medicine and said you should go to Kabul.

My daughter was in so much pain. The doctor gave her painkillers but after two months she was still so sick and in pain. We found your team’s information and came to Kabul for help. We are now in a safe home.

My daughter has been in pain for so long, screaming at night and she wets her bed. We just started care with your team.
