NAZANIN, Survivor Statement (via her mother)

I am the mother of 14-year-old Nazanin from Parwan province.

My husband was one of the soldiers from the former government and
after the fall of our government, we lost everything and moved to
one of the districts of Parwan province.

It is very difficult to take care of children in Afghanistan, especially
when you are a female parent and in this situation for Tajiks, Uzbeks and Hazara - the situation is hard.

I have 3 daughters and 2 sons.
On 10-July-2022, my daughter Nazanin, was playing with other children outside the house. I heard my daughter's voice - she sounded upset - and I went outside to check on her.

I saw a taliban gunmen take my daughter with him. I ran to the Taliban Checkpoint
near the house. They did not understand me - our language because they speak Pashto and do not know Farsi.

One of my neighbors knew a little Pashto and told them what happened to my daughter, and this checkpoint person said 'This man is the bodyguard
of key Taliban Commander in Parwan.'

He said, "We can't do anything, leave the checkpoint alone."

We went all over our community to find her but after 48 hours, there was no information. Soon after, 3rd day she was gone, one of our neighbors found my daughter, all covered in blood, at the clinic. In the clinic, the doctor wasn't able to help much and my daughter was no able to urinate due to so much pain and swelling.

In order not to be harassed by the Taliban and to protect my children, we came to Kabul and I rented a house but we couldn't afford any medical care. I went all over Kabul, begging for money, my son worked on the streets cleaning shoes.

A Taliban commander in Parwan province told us to never tell anyone about what happened or they will kill us. So, this is why we left for Kabul.

This is the result of my husband's cooperation with the United States of America and NATO and that we are not Pashtuns.

Now we found help for my daughter and my whole family - an Imam connected us to your team.
