FAIZEL, Survivor Statement

Name: Faisal

Age: 14 years old

Gender: Male

Ethnicity: Turkmen/Tajik

Date of Assault: May 29, 2023

On May 29, 2023, when I was going home from school, several Taliban armed men were blocking my way home. They forced me into their car and they covered my eyes and mouth.

Not long after, the car stopped and they uncovered my head.

There were 3 Taliban, one of whom spoke a little Persian and Turkmen and the other 2 spoke Pashto and did not know Persian.

They asked me if my father has money to save me and I told them with tears in my eyes, you know we are poor and you know that no one has a job.

They said, yeah that’s true. If you need money you can work for us and we can pay you.

I told them I haven't finished school and can’t work for them.

They said,"just meet us every day after school for an hour or two and we will pay you. You will take off your clothes and be with us. We have come from faraway places and our women and children are not with us and we need you.”

I started crying and begged them to let me go and go home.

Then one of the Taliban men grabbed me and started to rip my clothes off.  They raped me. After a while, I was bleeding a lot and they went to get water and poured the water over my buttocks to clean me. Then they left me alone for a while and I went to the corner of the room. After a while I passed out, I was in so much pain and crying.

When I woke up, I saw sunlight outside. I was still laying in the corner of the room.

Two of them came back and raped me more for 2 days.

On the third day, another person came and saw how bad my condition was. He shouted at them and brought me by car near our house. He told my father to promise to never speak of this to anyone.

He said that if we complain to anyone, they will come back, destroy and kill our whole family. He said he will keep checking on us since he knows where we live and who we are.

My father took me to a clinic far from home and they gave me some medicine. But they didn’t have many options for care. Through one of the doctors at the clinic, they connected us to your team. I came to Kabul with my mother and an uncle and now my treatment is going on and I am happy about it.
